Tirumurti Highlights the Importance of Chabahar Port for India

Deputy Minister of External Affairs of India: India is Committed to Chabahar Agreement

“The Chabahar port is located on the Indian-Central Asia route, and we can utilize this port as the center of our transit business. We are eagerly looking for the inauguration of the Chabahar-Zahedan and Khaf-Herat railroads” said Mr. Tirumurti on 23rd Oct. 2018.

During the first meeting on the International Transport and Transit Corridor Agreement Among the Governments of Iran, Afghanistan and India (also known as the Chabahar Agreement), with emphasize on trilateral cooperation which leads to peaceful and prosperous activities in the region, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of India said that Iran's proposals to facilitate and improve the transit at Chabahar port are also considered by the Indian government and are all operational.

By referring to the increase in exports of Indian goods and supplies to Afghanistan over the last year after the inauguration of the first phase of Chabahar, Mr. Tirumurti stated that India is eagerly prepared to meet its commitments to build road and connecting routes from Chabahar to Zahedan.

He concluded that this agreement, with a focus on the strategic port of Chabahar, and with the prospect of expansion of multimodal transportation, is formed based on the rich background of economic relations between the three countries of Iran, India and Afghanistan.
