The Deputy Minister announced Iran’s interest in attracting foreign investment in order to export renewable and clean electricity in addition to supplying local demand. Based on SATBA’s public relations and international affairs office, Dr. Sadeghzadeh, deputy minister of energy and head of SATBA, that participated as the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the 2nd meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), explained about Iran policies and programs related to the renewable energy development and an importance of the transfer and development of technology as well as the foreign investment attraction. He welcomed investors and pointed to the operation of 85 power plants (in MW scale) and 2000 small-scale power plants (in kW scale), and the number of other power plants under construction over the past two years.
The head of the SATBA announced at this meeting that 11 production lines of renewable energy equipment including five solar panel and two wind turbine production lines, and a number of other major equipment in our country have been created. He expressed readiness to attract foreign investment in order to export renewable and clean electricity besides supplying the local electricity demand. It should be noted that the IORA countries include 21 members which account one-third of the world’s population and have received a great deal of encouragement for renewable energies development in recent years. At the sideline of the meeting, in an interview with the Islamic News Agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran pointed out that due to the reduced energy generation costs from renewable energy sources in the world, especially in Iran, because of the high potential of renewable energy sources, it will enable the country to keep oil and gas for the production of higher added value materials as well as Iran’s export markets and use renewable energy sources which do not consume water in order to help the country’s water scarcity for electricity and energy generation.
